Eka Putra is a Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) candidate at Indiana University – Maurer School of Law, the United States.
His research focuses on criminal law, cyberlaw, free speech, and media law. Since 2019, Eka is also working as a legal advisor at BULLY ID, Indonesia, a platform that focuses on protecting cyberbullying and online harassment victims through three services: relationship health check, revenge porn report, and legal and psychological counseling with licensed experts.
Eka was selected as Digital Forensic Lab’s Scholar (2021), the project provides training for scholars in combating disinformation, protecting the integrity of information, and fostering media literacy and resilience in their regions. He was also involved in Indiana University’s Diplomacy Lab (2020), a collaboration project with the U.S. Department of State on researching several countries’ compliance with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). Starting in February 2021, Eka is working as a research fellow for Criminal Law, Cyberlaw, Free Speech, and Media Law at International NGO for Indonesian Development (INFID).
In 2022, Eka joined the Research Center of Education and Policy (Pusat Studi Pendidikan Kebijakan), Indonesia as a legal consultant and researcher. He was selected as an International Research Fellow at the Information Society Law Center at the University of Milan, Italy for 2022-2023. Eka received Fulbright Scholarship (2018) and AIFIS – Luce Fellowship (2019-2020) for his research entitled “Criminal Defamation and Free Expression in the Digital Age.”
