The Information Society Law Center (ISLC) is a research hub dedicated to understanding, anticipating, and shaping the legal and societal transformations driven by digital technologies. Based at the University of Milan, the Centre brings together an international community of scholars working at the intersection of law, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital rights, and emerging technologies.
At ISLC, we approach the digital world not as a technical domain alone, but as a complex environment where law, power, human behaviour, and technological infrastructures continuously interact. Our work explores how legal systems can respond to – and meaningfully govern – the profound changes introduced by algorithmic decision-making, data-driven societies, and new forms of digital interaction.
Through advanced research, international collaborations, and high-level academic initiatives, the Centre fosters a critical and forward-looking understanding of the information society. From artificial intelligence and health to cybersecurity, vulnerable groups, and the future of legal professions, ISLC develops research lines that reflect the most pressing challenges of our time.
More than a research centre, ISLC is a laboratory for the law of the future: a space where legal thought is reimagined in order to preserve human dignity, fundamental rights, and democratic values in an increasingly technological world.
